
At the Full Moon
(Poornima) of
Kartik month (October -
November) of Hindu calendar, a large number of camels travel their way
across the golden sands of Rajasthan to collect at
Pushkar for
the week-long fair devoted to them. This is the famous
Pushkar Fair
held at Pushkar, a small place, situated 11 km from Ajmer, in the state
of Rajasthan. The distinct features of the
Pushkar Fair are
spectacular fair grounds filled with beautifully decorated camels and
cattles, adventurous competitions, events, thousands of people,
meditating sadhus, holy dip in the Pushkar Lake, large number of stalls,
folk dances and gaily dressed people from all over the world. Over the
years, this fair is one of the major cultural reflectors of Rajasthan
and people from different parts of the world gather to participate in
the various events there.
